A2 Music Video - Experimental Editing

This video consists of me just playing about with editing and putting 4 editing techniques into the video. For editing techniques i have put fast cuts, blur, slow-mo and also black and white.
I used blur in the film clip because the film was already boring so i gave it fast cuts to make it more exciting. I have also used slow-mo because the women in the video was throwing paper so i slowed it down to give the people watching more chance of what she is doing.
With the black and white editing technique I used it to match the mood with the video it was very dull and boring so thats why i put it in.

A2 Music Video - Storyboard Movie

Here is our storyboard but put into a movie with the actual song in the background. This is easier for us when putting the music video together and it also makes it easier for other people to understand what will happen in each scene.

A2 Music Video - Draft Storyboard

Here we have our draft storyboard for our remake of the video Beggin'.
We used post it notes to create our storyboard as we drew a shot from each scene and then also put the time that each scene would be.
We also used post it notes because its easier as we can change the order of what happens in the video easily if we want to.
The the scenes go left to right in order.

A2 Music Video - Choosing our song

Choosing our song

It was hard to pick a song, so we decided to talk about ideas (Me and Jamie) of what sort of music we can use, so we wrote them down and we then narrowed them down and had to pick between 3 songs which were:

Macdon - Beggin'

The first idea for this song was there are going to be one or two homeless people who dance for money, so begging. Then one day while thier dancing a proper dance crew copme across them/him/her, then they decided that they want them to be in thier crew with them. The homeless person/people get into the crew succesfully and then are not homless anymore. I guess the message for this particular video is that if you have a dream you should never give up, you should keep chasing it till you got it.

Macdon - Beggin'

The second idea for this song was that there is a person that has got him/herself into trouble with the wrong people and there wanted by the people who are chasing him/her. There are several different people chasing him/her for the same reason as there all part of the same group, it turns into a free running chase quickly and the person gets caught and then starts begging for them not to hurt him/her.

Lanal Del Ray (Cedric Gerval Remiz)

The idea for this song was that a boy or girl is looking through old pictures and then she comes across a picture that had her/his ex girlfriend/boyfriend and then the image would turn into a video and it would bring bad sad memorys from the summer.

Preliminary Task 2 - Music Video Remake - Final Product

Final product

Bruno Mars - The Lazy Song | AS Media Product

Here is our final production of the music video that we had to recreate. It took us 6 hours in total to get it done as we had to learn the moves and we tried to get the moves and steps as accurate as we could. There was only one bit where it slipped up and is where Bruno Mars (Michael) turned the other way but then quickly tried to correct it, we done it to the best standard as we could. Also another problem with filming was the room was slightly to small, the length of the room was fine but the width of the room weren't as big as we would of liked to have it but everything went great, it was also very fun and exciting to do but it was also hard, we all enjoyed recreating the music video.

Preliminary Task 2 - Music Video Remake - Health and Safety

Health and safety

Must of us were first aid qualified due to doing a course a few months ago so we have the qualifications to help someone if they were to hurt themselves but no one did at the end so it was all good.
As you can see in the picture this is the chair we was using for Michael to sit on

As we was only dancing and not doing anything silly or dangerous there weren't a lot of dangers that were around, except from Michael (Bruno Mars) using the chair I could only see that was the only danger which was minor.

Again the location we was filming at was Jamie's house (my partner). The only problem with doing our filming in his house was that we was limited to space so we had to try and use as much of it as possible meaning when we were dancing we was slightly cramped together but we made it work and done a great piece of work.

Preliminary Task 2 - Music Video Remake - Reason why we choose this song

The whole point in doing this product is to re-create a popular music video. Me and Jamie have decided to re-create Bruno Mars - The Lazy Song. the reason to why we wanted and chose to do this was because it looked good to do, it also looked fun to re-do. It would also be easy filming it as we didn't have to change the camera position and also didn't have to change the angles of the shots so this means we will have the option to either do it in one whole shot or split it into two half's as in the official video Bruno Mars covers the camera half way in the song so that's an opportunity to cut there and then learn the rest of the video.

Preliminary Task 2 - Music Video Remake - Costumes

Costumes
Checkered Shirt
Black Retro 80'S Aviator Unisex Wayfarer Sunglasses

The clothing most suitable to go with this music video would be a checkered shirt, with jeans and the people that are being the monkeys in the film will have to wear masks and also everyone in the filming even the women (George) and Bruno mars (Michael) have to wear glasses. Wearing all this gives our product a sense of realism, because this is what they wear in the music video originally.
Picture from - http://www.fashionbeans.com/2009/hot-right-now-mens-check-shirts-2/

 http://www.doodysfancydress.co.uk/fancy-dress-monkey-chimp-mask.html

Monkey Mask

Both the monkey mask and glasses both looked similar to the props that are used in the official music video.

First we have me, I am one of the 5 monkey so I'm wearing a monkey mask with glasses with a black, white and red checkered shirt and also denim jeans, second in from the left. The only things that were provided to me was the monkey mask and the glasses the rest of the clothing is mine.

Secondly we have monkey number 2 which is Jamie, far right. As you can see Jamie is also wearing a checkered shirt with jeans and with a monkey mask and glasses. Again the only thing that was provided to Jamie was the monkey mask and glasses.

Thirdly we have number 3 monkey which is Liam, far left. He is wearing a checkered shirt with some jeans and shoes, he provided all of the clothing himself but the monkey mask and glasses he does not own.

Here is another monkey of ours, his name is Jae, he is the second in from the right, next to Michael (Bruno Mars). As you can see he is wearing the monkey mask with glasses and also with a black t-shirt and dark jeans.

At the back, in the middle we have Conor, he is wearing a red polo with light blue jeans, with no shoes and the monkey mask and glasses.

We have George who is the LadyMan in the film, he is second from the right in the back row, he was wearing a dressing gown, with glasses and a hat as that what the one in the music video was wearing.

Lastly we have Michael, knelling down at the front, he is the singer Bruno Mars and he is wearing a red, blue and green checkered shirt with dark jeans, he is also wearing glasses which is a prop we have to use in the music video.

We decided at the end that the people who didn't have a checkered shirt could wear some alternative clothing that was suitable so some of the people in our music video wore t-shirts but it didn't make it look any different or any poorer.

Preliminary Task 2 - Music Video Remake - Overview

Overview

Theme - Our theme it to make a music video that looks the same as the original one.

Mood Progression - In the music video where the ladyman comes in the mood sort of changes to a more arrogant as Bruno Mars changes his tone when singing and also he way he acts, he gets quite cocky. This gives the audience a different side to him as he isn't in the news a lot and don't see him talk about girl like that but it could also be a joke.

Location - We are going to be filming in at my media partners Jamie's house. we are filming here as he has smooth floors so that we can use the props we have effectively and all of the filming of the remake of the music video will be filmed here.

Statement -We haven't really got a statement as we are only just remaking a music video that we both like. We aren't trying to give any statement with the music music we are going to to be producing. We are doing it for our media product but at the same time it is going to be done for fun.

Lighting - We may use natural lighting and also may use other lighting in the video, it depends on what looks better when we are filming it as natural light can sometimes mess the shots up. All of the shooting will be indoors so we my not be able to use natural lighting as long as we want to depending on time and where we film in the house.

Props - We have several props that we are going to be using, they are, monkey masks and also glasses. We are using these props because they are what they use in the original music film that we are remaking, also we are using a wheelie chair, checkered shirts and a dressing gown. All these props are used to help us product a music video that looks the same as the original ad also so that we look professional.

Belongings - We each are bringing our own clothes such as, checkered shirts, jeans and shoes. We will be using all of these items in the film as we are remaking the music video that has all them clothes in them. Also Jamie has a wheelie chair that he owns so we will be using this as well. The only items that we don't own are the monkey masks we will be using and also some glasses as some people have already got some. Me, Louis, Conor and Liam will all be needing to borrow monkey masks and glasses as Jamie only needs the monkey mask.

Clothing - 6 out of the 7 will need to wear checkered shirts and any colour of jeans, as with the Ladyman (George) will need to wear shorts, a beanie and a dressing gown as we are copying the music video exactly.

Preliminary Task 2 - Music Video Remake - Lyrics

These are the lyrics to the song that we are going to be remaking:

Bruno Mars - Lazy Song

                                                                    "The Lazy Song"

Today I don't feel like doing anything
I just wanna lay in my bed
Don't feel like picking up my phone
So leave a message at the tone
'Cause today I swear I'm not doing anything.

Uh!
I'm gonna kick my feet up
Then stare at the fan
Turn the TV on, throw my hand in my pants
Nobody's gonna tell me I can't

I'll be lounging on the couch,
Just chillin' in my snuggie
Click to MTV, so they can teach me how to dougie
'Cause in my castle I'm the freaking man

Oh, yes I said it
I said it
I said it 'cause I can

Today I don't feel like doing anything
I just wanna lay in my bed
Don't feel like picking up my phone
So leave a message at the tone
'Cause today I swear I'm not doing anything

Nothing at all!
Ooh, hoo, ooh, hoo, ooh, ooh-ooh
Nothing at all
Ooh, hoo, ooh, hoo, ooh, ooh-ooh

Tomorrow I'll wake up, do some P90X
Meet a really nice girl, have some really nice sex
And she's gonna scream out: 'This is Great' (Oh my God, this is great!)
Yeah

I might mess around, and get my college degree
I bet my old man will be so proud of me
But sorry pops, you'll just have to wait
Haha

Oh, yes I said it
I said it
I said it 'cause I can

Today I don't feel like doing anything
I just wanna lay in my bed
Don't feel like picking up my phone
So leave a message at the tone
'Cause today I swear I'm not doing anything

No, I ain't gonna comb my hair
'Cause I ain't going anywhere
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
I'll just strut in my birthday suit
And let everything hang loose
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Ooh
Today I don't feel like doing anything
I just wanna lay in my bed
Don't feel like picking up my phone
So leave a message at the tone
'Cause today I swear I'm not doing anything

Nothing at all
Ooh, hoo, ooh, hoo, ooh, ooh-ooh
Nothing at all
Ooh, hoo, ooh, hoo, ooh, ooh-ooh
Nothing at all

Preliminary Task 2 - Music Video Remake - Location

Location

We chose Jamie's house because Jamie and i were discussing it and then we decided that the best place to film would be Jamie's as he has smooth flooring which allows us to use the chair. We know the room we will be filming in is fairly big as me and Jamie have been to Syds house before. We also chose that room because it has a smooth floor which will allow Michael to spin and move the chair he will be needing when we start to film as Bruno Mars does in his music video. His house is located Epping Green which is about a 10/15 minute drive away from all of us as all of us apart from Syd live 2 minutes away from each other.

Preliminary Task 2 - Music Video Remake - Planning

Planning

We decided that we wanted to do a popular song for our remake, so we've chosen the Lazy Song. we only need 7 people in the whole process of filming as there is 7 people in the video.

The 7 people that are going to be in the music video are:

-Michael Mendes De Costa - Bruno Mars
-George Taylor - The Man but dressed as a women
-Jamie Farrow - Monkey 1
-Jack Baird - Monkey 2
-Conor Farrow - Monkey 3
-Jae - Monkey 4
-Liam Rothwell - Monkey 5

This means we have to buy 6 pairs of glasses as all the monkeys and Bruno Mars needs to wear them, and we also need to buy 5 monkey masks.

We picked Michael to be Bruno Mars because we thought that he has a similar look to Bruno as he has similar hair and he also similar skin tone to Bruno and he also does drama so he wont be shy in-front of the camera as he has to perform in-front of people when he does his acting.

We picked George to play the man who's dressed as women as we thought he suited the role well as he is doesn't get embarrassed in doing things like this.

Me and Jamie decided to be in it as we thought it would be fun and it is our media product so we decided to be in it.

We picked Conor, Liam and Jae to be in our video with us as we know they wont mess about when we are filming and also the majority of them are good dancers so they may pick the moves up quick. And because we asked them to and they all said yes.

Preliminary task 2 - Music Video Remake

Music Video Remake

We picked Bruno Mars - The Lazy Song because we thought that it would be fun to do and also it looks very simple. But the whole music video is in one continuous shot so that will be the tricky side to it, the camera movement or shot does not move at all through the video, the people in the music video come towards the camera rather than the camera zooming into them. We also chose this because it is quite a popular song as most people know the words and some of the dance moves to it.

The Run - Film Opening - Health and Safety

Health and Safety

With health and safety we didn't have anyone there that was qualified in first aid, even though there was 6 of us there we didn't have any equipment if someone was to fall or hurt themselves.

As it was only simple free-running we didn't feel that there was much caution there anyways as we were taking it seriously when filming so they wouldn't muck about and do stupid things.

The location at where we was filming at was Elephant and Castle, it is now a banded flats, the problem with that is it may be hard for the police or ambulance to find us in as some of it may of been blocked off, also we didn't know who was living there so anyone could have came out and hurt us but we were fine on the day with no problems or injuries.

I have a job for you.

The Run - Film Opening - Overview

Overview

Theme - Our theme was to have a finished product that features action and to have a chase scene in our product.

Mood Progression - At the beginning of the product where the scientist part was, it was dark and mysterious. We also built tension up about it, we made the audience want to watch more. Straight after the scientist part the free-running started which jumped straight into the action causing even more tension as Jamie was getting chased by 3 people.

Location - We filmed in Elephant and Castle which was a few flats. The location was urban and was a good location for filming here. There will be another location where the scientist is filmed, it will be in a dark location to build tension.

Statement - We aren't trying to give any statement with the scenes we have towards the audience. We wanted to make the viewer see more by creating tension in the creating scenes where the scientist part will be filmed.

Lighting - we are hoping to use natural lighting. Most of the film product will be outside in the daytime so unless its raining it will be natural lighting. Also for the scientist part we want to make it dark but with some lighting so the audience can still see what's happening.

Props - We have several props that we are going to use which are a lab coat, science glasses, lab equipment and also a backpack that Jamie will be using. The scientist will be wearing the lab coat and glasses while making the drug with the lab equipment this will help give the audience a sense of what he is doing.

Belongings - We had our own personal belongings every prop was ours except the lab equipment. We had to borrow the lab equipment from our school as they allowed us to use it but will only a teacher in the room to supervise up. All the clothes we used in the film were ours, even the lab coat was provided by us, this is great for our video as it gives the video a so real feeling to it. The backpack will be carried by Jamie, he is the one that is getting chased because he has the drug in his bag.

Clothing - The free-runners will all be wearing tracksuit bottoms with a jumper or hoody. As the scientist will be wearing a lab coat with glasses and some dark coloured trousers and shoes

Colour - We had no particular colours in our video, we only decided that we want a dark coloured theme in the first part for the scientist. The rest will be natural lighting.

The Run - Film Opening - Costume

Costumes

The costumes that the all the actors wore were all there own clothes. We did not have to provide any clothing, this was great because it meant we didn't have to waste time getting dressed at the filming location.. As we was free-running on the day these outfits were ideal for them and the film. A lot of free-runners wear these sorts of clothing anyways when they free-run in there free time.
Here are what the actors wore on the day:

First we have our mad scientist, Michael. As you can see he has a coat lab with glasses with black trousers and shoes. This dress sense for a mad scientist is good because this is usually what scientists wear in there laboratory. We only provided Michael with two things which were the glasses and the lab coat, the rest was his own clothes so again we didn't have to waste time there getting dressed and undressed etc.

Secondly we have the runner, which is Jamie. As you can see Jamie is wearing tracksuit bottom with a jumper and a backpack. This is what free-runners usually wear as tracksuit bottoms are stretchy so they don't get caught when doing jump's etc. Jamie provided his own clothes and backpack so again he didn't waste no time and also didn't have to spend any money.

Thirdly we have Rus. He is one of the three chasers. Again Rus is wearing tracksuit bottoms with a jumper. This is the usual way he dresses when he goes to free-run, the reason to why they wear these sorts of clothes is because there comfortable. Again he provided his own clothing.

Fourthly we have Liam, he is the second out of the three chasers. He had his own clothing and this is how he dresses when he goes to free-run. There easy and comfortable clothing when going free-running in and also they are the easiest clothing to run in when your free-running.

Last but not least we have Louis. He is the last out of the chasers. Louis is wearing a maroon coloured jumper with tracksuit bottoms. We didn't have to provide Louis with any clothing, this is how he goes when he goes free-running. Again its easy to run in.

The Run - Film Opening - Location

Location

Location

This is where we filmed the opening scene, which is the part where the scientist (Michael) is creating the drug and he is also speaking. It was filmed in Cheshunt School, in the science department.

This is Elephant and Castle, this is where we filmed most of our media product. This is where Jamie gets chased through by 3 other people.

The Run - Film Opening - Ideas

Ideas

We could of added something exciting into our video, we could ended the video with may be a little car chase or Jamie getting into a car and then speeding off away from the chasers.
Like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?client=mv-google&gl=GB&hl=en-GB&v=584J_kc9vhI&nomobile=1
It's a video of a car wheel spinning and what we could of done is got Jamie to get in a car then speed away from the people that are going to chase him in our media product.
We would have to change the angle of the camera and also it would be better quality, but this is just an example it would make the chase more exciting and more catching. The problem with this is none of us can drive yet.

The Run - Film Opening - Inspiration

Inspiration

Our inspiration was from two videos, one being Storm Free running group that involves several people free running and doing acrobatics over fences/gates/walls/bushes. This free running group are a UK free running group. The reason to why we were greatly inspired by this group is because the excitement we get from them watching there videos and also they do videos such as action themed.

Also we was inspired by this video, the reason to why we thought this was very good is because it is based on a the story line we wont, so we can get ideas from this and mix it in with the free running, we was then hoping that it would make a great video as there is a bundle of action put together.

The Run - Film Opening - Roles and Responsibilities

Roles and Responsibilities

Jack - I will be responsible for camera angles and shots, the reason to why I am doing this role is because I'm not going to be in the film and also i am good at shooting when it comes to cameras, i know what shot to do in a specific scene.

Jamie - He will be responsible for editing the film after we have got our shots, he is good at it so that is why he is doing it, he will also be in the film.

Daisy - Daisy will be responsible for the script, she will be telling what the actors to say.

All - We all put our ideas into the camera shots and angles, editing the film, how it will be put together and also the script.
We do this because we are a group and we don't want there to be a argument between us about something in the film or editing the film, this is why we discuss our ideas before actually doing them. Its  to et everyone have their say.
